What is Working Family Payment?
Working Family Payment is a weekly tax-free payment for employees with children. One person per household may receive this payment.
Who can get Working Family Payment?
You may get Working Family Payment if:
- You have one or more children
- You work 38 hours or more per fortnight in paid employment, you can also combine your weekly hours with your partner's hours to help meet the requirements
- Your household income is calculated to be below a certain threshold. Check table below for income limits
- Your employment is expected to continue for at least 3 months
- You are the higher earner in your relationship

Fuel Allowance Notice
From 1st January 2026, Fuel Allowance will be available to all Working Family Payment recipients who meet the qualifying conditions.
If you qualify, your Fuel Allowance payment will issue along with your Working Family Payment during fuel season. The fuel season starts in late September and ends in April each year.
As part of Budget 2026, the government announced that recipients of Working Family Payment (WFP) will have an entitlement to Fuel Allowance (FA), subject to qualifying conditions, from Thursday 1 January 2026, as announced in Budget 2026.
You will not need to re-apply for fuel allowance, if you continue to have an entitlement to Working Family Payment in January 2026, we will automatically pay the fuel allowance if no other member of your household is receiving the fuel allowance. The fuel allowance payment for eligible Working Family Payment customers will issue in March/April 2026 and include any arrears due for the period from January.
Income limits for Working Family Payment
As of 1st January 2026, the weekly and annual family income limits for Working Family Payment are:
- One child - Weekly Limit €765 - Annual Limit €39,780
- Two children - Weekly Limit €866 - Annual Limit €45,032
- Three children - Weekly Limit €967 - Annual Limit €50,284
- Four children - Weekly Limit €1,058 - Annual Limit €55,016
